Appomattox Animal Control Partners with Appomattox High School Students

A new program is being launched at Appomattox Animal Control that will provide low cost dog houses to address issues where pet owners do not have adequate shelter.  Appomattox Animal Control partnered with students from the Appomattox High School Ag Classes as well as the ACHS drafting class in a collaborative effort with J.E. Jamerson Building Supply and the Lynchburg Humane Society Appomattox Center to create cost effective dog shelters.

ACHS partners with County to provide dog shelters 2017

We are able to provide suitable shelter for small to medium sized dogs which are primarily the types of dogs adopted from our local Shelter. Jonathan Garrett, Animal Control Officer, says he thinks this is a great opportunity for people interact with Animal Control in a positive way and also a way to educate the public on the requirements for proper pet care.

The costs of the houses are $40.00 each and that includes the house and flooring for the house.

In order to purchase the house the owner of the animal must be able to meet the following requirements;

  • Be a resident of Appomattox County
  • Provide proof of County Dog Tags
  • Provide proof of Rabies Vaccine
  • Make a $40.00 donation payable to the County to offset the expenses of the house.
  • Follow and meet all requirements of the state law and county ordinances regarding companion animals.
