The Electoral Board oversees aspects of election administration in the County.  Members are appointed by the County's Circuit Court judge for staggered three (3) year terms.

Members:

Mary G. Turner, Secretary
(Term Expires:  February 28, 2019)

Charles W. Haney, Chairman
(Term Expires:  February 28, 2018)

Frank J. Poynter, Vice-Chairman
(Term Expires:  February 28, 2020)

Duties:

As with every city and county in Virginia, Appomattox County has a three-member Electoral Board. The main duties of the Electoral Board are as follows:

  • Appointing of the General Registrar
  • Appointing of the Officers of Election
  • Training of the Officers of Election
  • Removal of a General Registrar or Officer of Election who fails to discharge his or her duties
  • Certifies of the results of the election.

In addition, the Electoral Board also:

  • Purchases and maintains the voting equipment
  • Prepares election ballots
  • Administers the ballot process
  • Conducts each election
