The Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center & the Appomattox County 4-H Extension Programs, will again, be offering numerous activities.  The Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center has many events & programs for various age groups, see below what is being offered & join in the fun. 

The Appomattox County 4-H Extension Office also has a good variety of after-school & specialty clubs, as well as, events during the year for youth to participate in.   To sign your child up for a program or for information on these & any other programs, please call the Extension Office at 434-352-8244 or e-mail Bonnie Tillotson at btillots@vt.edu.

Interstate Exchange 4-H Club

This club is for members 13-18 years of age.  It is an in-depth learning experience in which 4-H members, leaders and/or staff have a reciprocal host family experience with a 4-H program from another state. For more information call the Appomattox Extension Office at 434-352-8244.

Appomattox 4-H Shooting Education Club

This club meets on Thursday evenings & some weekends.  Members learn safe firearm handling & proper shooting techniques.  Disciplines include:  BB, Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Archery, Muzzleloader, .22 & Shotgun.  The club leader is Robert Tillotson.  For more information call the Appomattox Extension Office at 434-352-8244.

Appomattox 4-H Livestock Club

Livestock covered will be cattle, goats, sheep & pigs.  Members will learn proper care of & how to show their animal.  Open to ages 9 & up.  For more information call the Appomattox Extension Office at 434-352-8244.

Appomattox 4-H Horse & Pony Club

This is a mounted horse club, where members get instruction about horses & have hands-on activities.  The members of the mounted group will participate in Games on Horseback, Horsemanship Skills, Shows & Trail Rides.  Business meetings will be at the Appomattox Extension Office & mounted meetings will be held at a variety of facilities.  For more information call the Appomattox Extension Office at 434-352-8244.    

Fun With Foods

This after-school program is for those who enjoy cooking & would like to learn some new skills.  Open to ages 9 - 13, meetings will be held on the 2nd Thursday of the month, from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  The classes will end in May.  The cost for this program is $5.00 per class to cover food & cooking item expenses.  Please call the Appomattox Extension Office at 434-352-8244 to register.

Junior Master Gardener 4-H Club

Youth will learn about: annuals & perennials; how to prepare a site for planting; weed identification; soils; plant needs; how nutrients & competition affect plant growth; a plant's transport system; plants that attract butterflies & hummingbirds; vegetable gardening: & projects to take home.  There will be numerous hands-on activities.  

4-H Handbell Club

Members in this club will learn to read music & play handbells.  There will be a minimum of 2 public performances.  This club meets Wednesdays after school at the Appomattox Courthouse Presbyterian Church (behind AMS).  Youth must be 4th grade minimum.  Please call the  Appomattox Extension Office at 434-352-8244 if you are interested.  Space is limited.

County 4-H Public Speaking Contest

March 20, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Appomattox Elementary School, competition for those blue ribbon winning speakers whose speeches were previously judged. 

Appomattox/Lynchburg/Lunenburg 4-H Camp

This fun filled, week long, camp will be held July 3 - 7, 2017 for youth, ages 9 - 13.  The cost is $175.  Scholarships available to qualified individuals.  For more information please call the Appomattox Extension Office at 434-352-8244.
