The following Special Events will be happening soon in and around Appomattox.  Hope you take the time to enjoy what these events have to offer.


Virginia State Parks

Visit one of our three states parks in the area.  Holliday Lake, James River or the new High Bridge Trail State Park.  All three of the parks offer unique programs for families every month such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, canoe trips, bluegrass music festivals & much more.  For a complete listing of programs visit www.dcr.virginia.gov.

APX 3rd Fridays

Now in its 19th year, the 2017 APX 3rd Fridays season events will be held on the third Friday each month from May through October, with the first event being held on May 19th & with the final event being held on October 13th (to help kick-off the annual Railroad Festival Weekend) in downtown Abbitt Memorial Park from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Events include live performances from local bands & fun activities for kids.  Adult beverages, a 50/50 raffle, as well as, local restaurants selling drinks, delicious, hot food & snacks. 

Lawn chairs are always welcome, however, NO coolers or pets please.

Wolfbane Theatrical Productions

Ralph Hamlett 5K Race

Farm Girls Vintage Faire

National Park Lantern Tours

 Join the Appomattox 1865 Foundation at the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park for the 6th Annual Lantern Tours on September 29 & 30, 2017.  The lantern tours allow visitors to experience the park in the evening as the village would have looked back in the mid-ninetheenth century.  True stories of real people associated with the Civil War are protrayed by actors.  For more information call 434-660-9184 or visit www.appomattox1865foundation.org.

1st Annual Appomattox Oyster & Seafood Festival

Movies At The Museum Night

Bring the entire family & enjoy free movies at The American Civil War Museum.  There will also be crafts, food, games & more.  The movie on August 26 will be "Ride with the Devil", September 16 the movie will be "Cold Mountain" & on October 21 the movie will be "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter".  Movies begin at dusk.  For more information please visit www.acwm.org

Holliday Lake State Park - Routes of Rhthum Music Trail Concert

Experience the heritage of American music that was born in the crossroads of Virginia's Piedmont.  The Dixie Road Bluegrass Band will perform August 26, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. & is free, but a $4.00 parking fee is required.  No food beverages for sale.  Coolers permitted.  No glass containers.  Bring lawn chairs.  We will be making small banjo-type instruments out of recycled materials to showcase the birth of the modern version of the instrument in Appomattox County. 

James River State Park Fall Harvest Festival & Night 5-K Trail Run

Enjoy pumpkin carving & painting (pumpkins will be for sale), candle dipping, apple pressing, face painting, 19th century children's games, an apple slingshot, a candy maze & more on October 21, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  Music will start playing about 5:30 & continue on until the start of the race at 7:30 p.m.  When darkness falls, take a spooky trail at the amphitheater.  At 7:30 p.m. is the start of the last race of the "Adventures on the James Games" series with a 5-K run through some trails at the park.  

Historic Railroad Festival

Make plans for the 44th annual Historic Appomattox Railroad Festival, featuring Confederate Railroad.  Also, enjoy the parade, crafts, food & much more at the Historic Railroad Festival October 14-15, 2017 in downtown Appomattox.  For more information visit www.appomattoxrrfestival.org

James River State Park - Routes of Rhthum Music Trail Concert

The Routes of Rhythm Music Trail & James River State Park presents the Farm Use String Band on October 21, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  The farm Use String Band brings their own high energy versions old time music, staying true to the roots of traditional tunes while adding unique individual talents to make these songs their own.  

Joel Sweeney 5-K Race

 The race will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 7:30 a.m. with the Youth Mile to follow.  All proceeds will benefit the Appomattox Railroad Festival Scholarship Fund.  Registration is $20 for the 5-K & $15 for the Youth Mile.  For more information contact Jonathan Watson at jawatson@liberty.edu

Merry Main Street Christmas

Join in all the holiday festivities in downtown Appomattox on Saturday, December 2, 2017.  The day will start with an Artisan Festival at 10:00 a.m. followed by a full day of events for the entire family.  The Christmas Parade will be at 3:00 p.m.  Mr. & Mrs. Santa will also be in town to greet & take pictures with the children.  If you would like to put an entry in the Christmas Parade please contact the Appomattox Recreation Department at 434-352-5996.
