There are a variety of youth programs being offered in Appomattox County.  The programs require pre-registration for classes.  Some of the programs ask for payment ahead of time.  If you find an activity you are interest in, the link you click on will tell you where to sign up at, when, & how to pay. 

For any activities held at the Appomattox Recreation Department feel free to call Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at 434-352-5996.

2017 Summer Reading Sign-Up 

Summer reading sign-ups start on Saturday, June 10 at the Appomattox Library from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  Contact Katherine Bloodworth for more information at 352-5340.  

2017 Summer Pre-School Story & Craft Time

Join the Jamerson Memorial Library staff for Preschool Story & Craft Time on Wednesdays, June 14 & 21 & July 5, 12 & 19 starting at 11:00 a.m. for children up to the age of 4.  A staff member will read a simple story to be followed by a craft project that reflects the story.  This is a great way to introduce your toddlers to reading & help them gain the skills they will need to enter daycare or kindergarten, teaching them the basics of sharing, socialization & setting up a love of reading & education.  For more information you can contact the library at 352-5340.   

CVCC Summer Academies 2017

2017 Summer Civil War Day Camp

The Appomattox Court House National Historical Park & the American Civil War Museum - Appomattox - will sponsor two summer camps this summer.  The first camp will be held June 19 & 20 for ages 8-10 & the second camp will be held June 21 & 22 for ages 11-13.  Both camps will run from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.  You will spend one day at the American Civil War Museum & the second day at the National Park.  Participants should wear tennis shoes & bring a lunch each day.  Space is limited.  The cost is $10.00 per child.  To register contact Brandon Chamberlain at brandon_chamberlain@nps.gov or call 352-8987.

Summer at the Park - History & Theatre

Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, The American Civil War Museum - Appomattox & Wolfbane Productions are offering a "Summer at the Park" workshop June 26-30, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. for ages 14-18.  Students will study history & theatre with park rangers & the professional theatre company, Wolfbane Productions.  Tuition is $150.00 for the week & includes lunch, materials & two complimentary tickets to the show "Romeo & Juliet".  For more information call 579-3542 or e-mail boxoffice@wolfbane.org 

Fun & Craft Day in Abbitt Park

Join the library on June 28, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for fun & crafts in Abbitt Park next to the library.  The library will provide bottled water, popcorn, games & craft projects for the entire family.  For more information call the library at 352-5340. 

Appomattox Sports Camp

The Appomattox Baptist Association will sponsor a summer sports camp July 17-20, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Appomattox Community Center.  The camp is free to children ages 4-12.  To register call the Appomattox Baptist Association Office at 352-5806 or go to www.appomattoxba.org

Academic Boot Camps

Preventing summer learning lost is easy with ABC!  Bridge the gap at our one week academic boot camp.  This half day summer camp focuses on the 3 R's, Reading, Riting & Rithmetic in a fun way to help kick start the brain for the upcoming academic year.  Two camps will be offered July 17-21, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Appomattox Christian Academy.  For more information contact Jeannette Brady at 352-7373.  

2017 Summer Karate Classes

Karate classes are taught at the Appomattox Community Center year round.  The class is for ages 6 & up on Wednesday evenings & will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. only during the months of June & July.  The instructor is Kim Magruder, Ms. Magruder is a Certified Instructor with a Second Degree Black Belt.  Fee: $25.00 per month, must be paid in advance to the Appomattox Recreation Department.  For more information call 434-352-5996.

Hunter's Education Class

The New Geneva Christian Leadership Academy

The New Geneva Christian Leadership Academy offers many extra curricula classes & various alternative educational programs for the community throughout the year.  Options include music & art programs & exhibitions, history, theology, literature, Christian economics, math tutoring & more.  Special speakers & events are periodically arranged.  Homeschooling families are encouraged & welcomed! 

Student ages range from pre-K through college level.  Class times vary, including some after school hours.  Many high-school & college-level courses are available on-campus or live on-line.  New programs are now being formulated for the fall.

AJ Skateworld

AJ Skateworld offers skating on Friday nights from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. & on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Admission is $6.00 with $1.00 skate rental for each session.  AJ Skateworld offers Fund Raising events, Birthday Party Packages, Special group rates for private rental & Learn to Skate Lessons.  For more information call 434-534-7055 or 703-623-7354 or you can e-mail ajskateworld@gmail.com.

Tutoring Classes By Sylvan

Sylvan Learning is opening a Satellite Learning Center in Appomattox. Utilizing academic space on the campus of Appomattox Christian Academy, 1916 Redfields Road, located behind the rescue squad. Sylvan will provide instruction on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons & Saturday mornings. Led by Sylvan's licensed instructors & using our new digital learning platform with iPad technology, each student's interactive lesson keeps them engaged & focused. It also makes learning cool. All Sylvan programs are open enrollment, allowing a family to begin or end a program at any time. Competitive & assessment scholarships are available. Initial programs include: Academic Reading (2nd grade through 12th grade), Math Essentials: (2nd grade through 7th), Math Essentials for Pre-Algebra: (6th & 7th grade), Sylvan Advanced Math: (support for Algebra 1). Appomattox Soccer Association

Appomattox Youth Sports

Appomattox Youth Sports Cheerleading Sign-Ups

A.Y.S. Cheerleading will hold their Sign-Ups every Saturday in July From 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Appomattox Community Center.  You will need to bring a copy of your child's birth certificate to sign up & your child must be present to receive a uniform.  The fee for each Cheerleader is $50.00.  For more information contact Kathy Brown at 434-610-5870.
